How Debates are Scored
Debaters are scored individually in several areas using a Debate Ballot. Individual scores of teammates are combined to determine the "winner" of the debate.
Argument: How well the debaters show their understanding of the basics of the case.
Refutation/Rebuttal: How well the debaters address the opponent's attacks on their case.
Focus: how well the debaters maintain a focus on their case and carry their claims throughout the debate.
Content: Use of evidence and citing of evidence in the development of the case.
Organization: Order and structure of cases and use of time.
Delivery Skills: such as eye contact, vocal variety, speech rate, volume, posture, gestures
Style: tone, use of language, confidence
